happy Thursday! My legs are feeling a bit tired so I made a decision to switch today’s run for tomorrow. I just dropped my automobile off to get the brakes done and walked home from there. I’ll walk back to get my automobile later, so about 4.5 miles of walking is my workout today and maybe a bit strength this evening.

I almost had eggs for dinner last night because I’ve been craving them so much! But, pizza won yesterday so I made a scramble for breakfast. half a bagel because I ate the other half for a snack yesterday and the super thick end piece of toast. It was a bready morning.

When I got back from the automobile dealer I had finished off the blueberries and had more iced coffee.  Snack of champions (when paired with some almonds).

Yesterday afternoon I had a dentist appointment. My dentist is really good and I like everyone there. But, I still dislike the dentist. I almost feel guilty because my dentist is so cool! Yet, the dread of those sees remains.

While I was there trying not to be mean to they guy stabbing me in the mouth, I wondered if my clients at the fitness center dislike pertaining to see me in the same way? maybe they think I’m not so bad, but wouldn’t mind pushing me off a cliff??

The pictures of my eats today absolutely don’t show the full story. I had this “third grade lunch” of PB&J, carrots and yogurt. but – I added hummus to the carrots and chia seeds & cereal to the yogurt too!

Then, I went for a long walk to take pleasure in this outstanding weather we’re having ? It makes me happy.

When I got back I felt hungry and grabbed a handful of PB pretzels with extra PB plus a bag of popcorn. No pic = not the full story of eats ?

Truthfully, that happens a lot around here. I have a bad routine if grabbing handfuls of cereal, chips or trail mix that never get documented on the blog. It’s not that big of a deal – but they really do add up (especially with my huge hands!).

Then, I ate cottage cheese with pineapple and cereal x2. I love this snack, but always forget to get cottage cheese at the store! I know this picture isn’t that appetizing. Hey, they can’t all be winners folks…

I have no idea what to make for dinner. I want to use up some pantry items I already have on hand like – lentils, rice and tomatoes. We’ll see what it becomes in a bit.

We started with bread. It was very cake-like in consistency without being too sweet. I actually would have liked it either sweeter or a savory-er. pick a side!

I got a salad for some greens and vitamins. The house made dressing was really good – slightly sweet and packed with pecans.

For my main course I bought the mahi mahi grilled with asparagus. It was good, but better with the garlic butter sauce, obviously.

And I do have to note this mac n’ cheese. I always say I haven’t had good mac n’ cheese. Well, I finally did! This was magical and now I can finally understand why people call this comfort food.

Everyone* at the table got dessert (*except Ben who is on a high fat diet that intrigues Kelly & I to a point that probably makes him uncomfortable). I opted to just steal a few bites of Kelly’s ball.

And I tried a bite of crème brulee. I didn’t think I liked crème brulee, but this won me over. It’s still not “real” dessert, as that would have to include chocolate.

After lunch we headed to the Ironman expo and press conference. We have full media access to all of tomorrow’s events too!

The expo was pretty small by “big race” standards, but Ray said this was normal for triathlons.

We walked around the expo, getting sunburnt . I didn’t realize the expo and press conference were going to be outside and I got FRIED! I’m a lobster blogging from my hotel room ideal now.

We identified Chris Lieto’s daddy enjoying the recovery boot booth. have you people seen this?! It’s compression for your entire legs that help with blood flow and recovery. It’s also $1000.

Spotted this bumper sticker in the expo parking lot – Mariachi on board. I kinda want to wear a tee shirt saying this when I’m pregnant. What? little Benica could grow up to be a mariachi!

Watching all the athletes set up their bikes in the transition area was exciting. There is absolutely a very amped up buzz in the air!

The press conference featured three top female and three top mail contenders.

There is a ton of buzz around Lance Armstrong doing the race and bringing a lot more publicity to the sport. It was front page news around here!

Marino Vanhoenacker (in the green shirt) currently holds the record for the fastest Ironman time. He said this about competing against Lance Armstrong,”On Sunday if he beats me I won’t be delighted but if I beat him I will be really happy, but all in all it’s good. He is fierce, he is competitive and everybody has told us he can still compete so it is a great thing.”

A reporter asked Lance Armstrong if he thinks he could win the Ironman and he said, “Oh I have no idea. To be fair and sincere I don’t know. undoubtedly I have never done an Ironman, I have done one [Ironman] 70.3 race. When I raced 20 years ago they were much shorter events and the sport was much different, the fields were much different, I think even the level of competition was much different. It’s a big question mark and it’s the reason why I am here, I would like to answer the question for myself and probably for some others. No guarantees on my part but I am going to do whatever I need to do, train hard, be prepared and learn as much as I can because every one of these races is a learning experience for me and I will see and have a good indication at Ironman France if I can ever make a run for it.”

I observed the ladies all pertained to the stage with their own water bottles. maybe they were filled with a magic concoction that helps them be to awesome? maybe they were just making sure to stay hydrated in this heat? You decide.

After the press conference Refuel unveiled Chris Lieto’s new “My After” ad.

And I was about to turn into a grumpy bear when an apple saved the day! (I have started to notice my hunger cues first show up as feeling irritated or anxious. We’ll go over at a a lot more proper time.)

After I was sufficiently fried we headed back to the hotel for a bit of downtime before dinner.

We went to Landry’s a fancy seafood restaurant. I am LOVING all the fish I’m eating on this trip.

Garlic bread and salad to start…

Stuffed tilapia with veggies and a baked potato for the main event. (I bought a baked potato instead of the rice, but they brought both. maybe they thought I was carb loading for the race?)

No carb left behind!

I didn’t realize, but the fake dessert tray was ideal behind me the whole time and someone asked me to get hold of it so they could have a look. I might get a job as a waitress if this whole blogging thing falls through…

Traci’s dessert was crucial lime pie puffs. They are lime, so this just counts as a fruit, right?

Kelly got the bananabread pudding with chocolate chips. She pointed out something about not liking bananas and that hurt my heart a little. I don’t want to talk about it.

Okay, it’s 11:30p and I’m red and tired. I have a 5am wake up call tomorrow morning to enjoy the Ironman Lonestart 70.3! good luck to everyone racing!!

I stop blogging To Be a DJ

Hello! When we last spoke I was having dinner with my family. We satisfied near my brother’s which indicated I was ‘only’ 45 miles from palm Springs where my finest good friend lives (that’s most likely about half method there from me). So, I made plans to head to PS so we might go out.

When I shown up I was greeted with watermelon vodka. Freezing chilly this stuff is great directly up. But, I’m not one to turn down a chaser either.

I believed I was going to be dancing solo all night, however a significant pimple made a decision to be my date for the evening.

We had a DD so we were around the place. It was fun.

When I’m partaking in adult beverage this is humorous (to me). When I’m sober composing blog articles the next day this is still humorous to me, however just truly odd to everybody else. Luckily, RER is odd so right here ya go.

And I have a huge statement to make!

Last night I made a decision to stop blogging to ended up being a DJ!!!! BOOM. plot twist.

But, then I woke up this morning as well as realized I shouldn’t make life decisions that lots of drinks in so I have made a decision to return to RER.

Cindy got me fun ‘Party sleep Repeat’ PJs. If only they added eat in there it would be perfect!

I used my new PJs while enjoying legendary nachos as well as fish tacos at 2am. Please note: ALL the above photos are from Cindy’s phone however this was the ONE photo I took last night. Ha! normal Monican, only loving the food.

This morning I rolled out of bed to take a walk as well as take pleasure in the appeal that is palm Springs! like it.

My day started with pumpkin oat bran. I’m not sure why exactly. Oh, it was because Ben was eating oatmeal and I’m easily influenced. I love eating oatmeal, but I’m always hungry 40 minutes later.

But, after my 4 mile walk (that with some strength, was my exercise today) I came home H.ungry and ate more strawbs. They are hairy. Why am I just noticing this now?

Lunch was PopCorners and frittata on a salad. You can put anything on a salad. even Swedish Fish. Trust.

Then, I had an appointment and some calls to make. appointments and calls require fuel, preferably involving granola.

I made a smoothie in a bowl and finally broke down and ordered more of my favorite protein powder. God Bless it.

I don’t know.

I fit 15 minutes of blog reading in there somewhere. This new method is helping me stay productive! It would help more if I only did it once a day…

I tried something new with my hair, but all the back pictures came out blurry. So, this doesn’t help anyone at all. You’re welcome.

I just had a short shift training 2 clients tonight and walked to work. Ben ran to meet me on the way home! He’s training for the 5k and big Sur 10 miler, but recently joined a MMA gym so running has taken a back seat. Blasphemy!

As soon as we got home he grilled up some chicken sausages and I made a broccoli slaw salad. We have avocados coming out of our ears over here! and I love it.

Okay. I have gotten some form of the following two questions a lot recently.

1. how do I go from the treadmill to the street?

and

2. My shins hurt. Help?!?!

So, I’m grabbing one example of each and answering it…

Question: Hello! I’m fairly new to your blog-I found you a few weeks ago and I’m loving it! I have a few running questions. I really enjoy running, but I’m a little intimidated by it and a bit mentally blocked. I would say 98% of the running I do right now is on a treadmill. I think this is because it’s my “comfort zone”, and I live in an area that doesn’t have any good places to run. Do you have any tips from transitioning from the treadmill to the road? Thanks!

Answer: First, it’s important to realize it is a little harder to run outside versus the treadmill so don’t think something is wrong when you start out. Go slow and let your legs find their “happy pace”. since you’re used to the treadmill dictating the pace, and being super consistent with the speed it’s going to feel weird.

Be patient. keep running. Repeat.

One more tip: When you are on the treadmill try put it on a 1 incline to help better mimic outside conditions.

Question: Last Thursday I ran 7 miles, felt great. two days later headed out for a 5 mile run. two miles in my shins on both legs started hurting like crazy. The pain was sharp and on the side of the shin (anterior), not the front. I had to stop running and walked home. The pain was still there while walking and persisted over the next few days. I haven’t run since because I’m worried I will cause more damage before the race. I have jumped and jogged in place and still feel pain when doing this. I have shoes that are properly fitted, they have 70ish miles on them, and aside from running a further distance than ever before, I haven’t done anything different. any advice you have would be great (should I still run before 15k, do I rest until 15k, how can I speed recovery, etc.)

Answer: the best way to help shin splints is RICE –

Rest

ICE

Compression

Elevation

I know you don’t want to Rest, but it’s the first part of RICE. Take it easy and show up on race day rested.

You can get shin splints from “too many toos” — running too hard, too fast or for too long. (source)

The Mayo clinic suggests you see a doctor if over the counter medication doesn’t help.

Easter service is long so we were out around 1pm. My daddy hit up a regional location for burritos as well as I stole a huge bite.

But, I had already made a huge salad by the time he got home… I stole all my mom’s tuna salad. Busted by the blog.

Some bunny likes you

After lunch my mommy as well as I got started on dinner. The ham was already cookin’ as well as I made a fruit salad, spinach salad as well as eco-friendly beans.

My mommy as well as I worked together on a healthy scalloped potatoes dish. Neither one of us had ever made them (or tasted) a homemade version before! It came out fantastic – recipe to find soon.

Cooking took a while as well as we were just hanging out so we had a veggie as well as chips tray…

There were no Easter egg hunts today, however the dogs had a rubber poultry hunt…

And Ben had an avocado search on my mom’s tree.

We ended up eating around 4:30pm – early bird special? That’s when everybody was done as well as we didn’t want it to get cold!

The weather condition is stunning so we ate outside.

Eating as well as Driving

While I would never drink as well as drive, I do have the poor habit of eating as well as Driving ?

I often dig into my groceries on the way home to “test” something out. testing ends up being the equivalent of a full meal by the time I make it to my final destination! Boo. This is absolutely one habit I need to stop. I think I will start putting my groceries in my trunk to prevent this!

While at a stop light I was even able to take pics of the ingredient list of these new chips – not poor at all.

Lunch was based around my new containers of Wholly Guacamole (Costco). I pimped it out a bit with onions, cilantro as well as lime ? Then, stuffed a ton of guac in a tortilla with beans as well as alfalfa sprouts.

*I’m sure you believe me when I say that a lot of guacamole was consumed while trying to get it just right.

While I was at Costco I enjoyed a sample or two…perhaps one more habit that should be on it’s way out? yeah right. I’ve got to draw the line somewhere.

Now I am going to walk over to the management office as well as grab my long awaited package!!! So excited.

I tried a Dailey method class today. I was a little nervous because I’m not very familiar with barre style classes, but I loved it. Here’s my lil experience at The Dailey method in Newport Beach.

The class started best in with terrific music and a stream of easy to follow but challenging moves. We used very light weights, but the repetition really burned! I loved it.

I loved the emphasis on core and hamstrings – two areas I really need to strengthen. and the class was small enough that the instructor was able to keep an eye on everyone and help and encourage us to keep terrific form and alignment.

I sported my special non-slip socks for the occasion and got a compliment on them

After class I went across the street to fashion Island to get some lunch. whole Foods salad bar is my favorite restaurant.

Now that I’m back at home and at my desk I can feel my muscles are exhausted from the workout – especially my hamstrings and triceps! I hope I’m sore tomorrow. Is that weird?

I promise there’s much more to me than that! Kinda.

After our lunchtime buying trip I was hungry, however had much more tasks to run. Luckily, I brought my lunch from yesterday. I ate PB&J as well as samples while walking around Costco. Don’t Judge.

I likewise ate these leftover brussel sprouts after kickboxing. What? This isn’t a typical snack after the gym??

This afternoon I did much more tasks as well as ate an apple as well as almond butter on bread. I know, I requirement much more range in my life.

Ben was ill of my cooking so he suggested we go out tonight. We hit up On The Border. I didn’t imply to eat so numerous chips, however nobody ever does I guess…
